‘Why am I doing this again?’ Toph thought grumpily as she undressed, shooing away the attendants and putting on the robe the salon had provided. ‘Oh yeah, because Mom sounded so happy when I said yes, I thought she was going to cry. Oh well, I guess this could be ok, as long as nobody touches my feet.’
Tying the robe’s belt firmly, she pushed through the curtain she had heard her mother swish through a moment ago. Her mother and two other women waited for her in the bath room. Other salon attendants, she assumed. Probably waiting to torture her with “beauty.”
Not that Toph cared about how she looked, being blind, but her mother had really made an effort to get to know the real Toph when she had returned home after defeating the Firelord. It just didn’t seem fair to refuse “female bonding time” when it obviously made her mother so happy. Besides, Uncle had been right. Reconciliation had to go both ways.

A/N: Sorry for the long delay folks! Here's my second little extra chapter, hope you like it! As always, I don't own ATLA, it is the property of Bryke and Nickelodeon.
It was early Spring two years later when Toph began feeling ill in the mornings. After a week of being unable to hold her breakfast (or lunch for that matter), Zuko had finally forced her to see a healer, convinced that she was sick. Toph had a different suspicion, which was confirmed when the cheerful woman had informed her that she was eight weeks pregnant.
Terrified and joyous, she had run to find Zuko, sending his steward to interrupt his morning meeting. Certain of an emergency, Zuko had rushed to her side immediately. When he learned the happy news he was overjoyed, kissing her and spinning her around until she told him she was going to barf. Then he put her down but he never stopped smiling. Uncle and the gang were informed at once, although the councilmen advised against a pu

Sweat rolled down her skin; her chest rising and falling as the hot summer air, filled her lungs. The blistering rays of the sun burned her skin, though they didn't bother to darken the shade even the slightest bit. She ignored the ache in her muscles, the violent thirst for water, and the outrageous thumping of her heart; she had twenty minutes of training left before she could take a break.
Stomping her foot on the ground with impressive strength, Toph summoned ten disks made of solid earth. She threw her arm forward with great speed and swiftness that the disks launched forward and sliced cleanly through the thick stalks of bamboo surrounding her training area. The severed stalks of the plant fell to the floor, rattling on the ground as they did.
A satisfied grin curved her lips and triumph washed over her; she's improved her speed by a whole five percent. Her hard work over her last three training s

Toph was amazed and awed at the depth and workings of the pyramid and its miles of mazes. It was wonderful, and for an earthbender such as herself, it felt like she had come home. Everything was either stone or connected to stone, so she could feel it all. The people, the pets. Even the insects that lived here and the few animals that craved the dark tunnels that had fled to the lower reaches when the people had taken back the main living quarters. She barely paid attention when they were introduced to the chief's family and the elders, making the proper remarks as it had been ingrained into her since birth, but all she could focus on was the maze of stonework surrounding her, and the heartbeat of her companion. She knew she and Zuko had almost kissed back there in the room, and she was still questioning herself as to how she had let him get so close to her, and it hadn't even been a whole day they had been together!
But every movement he did drew her in. Every word, every ti

Zuko winced as he pulled on his shirt in the dawn light. Turning towards the mirror in his room, he saw a couple of purple and blue spots on his back and sides and sighed heavily. He had forgotten how tough Toph could be, and how much of a pounding his body took whenever he sparred with the earthbender. He sincerely hoped that she wasn't taking the whole field trip thing seriously. The fact that he had gone with each of the gang on a life changing adventure before the comet had not been his fault. He had merely been trying to help, to make amends. But now Toph was claiming that she had been shorted her own. He winced again as he belted his shirt tight. The outfit was casual for him, though it still pointed out that he was at least a noble. Turning towards the mirror, he looked deeply at his face. His scar shone back and that was what marked him as royalty, as Zuko. He reached for the piece that marked him as Fire Lord, but paused, something holding him back. He wasn't sure wh

"I don't know why I let you drag me here," Zuko muttered darkly, casting glares at his two friends and bodyguards. At least The Duke had the sense to look sheepish, but Sokka just spouted his goofy grin.
"Ah, come on Zuko," Sokka said, wrapping an arm around the shoulder of the young Fire Lord, which Zuko promptly shrugged off. Most people would have taken that and the glare to know that if they kept pushing him, they would get burned, but not Sokka. The warrior just smiled even more before lounging back into the seat. "You need to relax, have fun. We're twenty-one now! And you act like you're fifty!"
Zuko narrowed his eyes at his friend which Sokka responded by frowning and then making his eyes go large and round. The effect could turn almost anyone into agreeing with the warrior and caused a lot of women to forgive him easily. Apparently Suki thought it was adorable and called it puppy eyes, but it disgusted Zuko. He let out a sigh and instead of yelling at h

Zuko softly hums a song as his footsteps create faint echoes with every leaf he encounters, spread across the garden randomly and centered mostly beneath his favorite tree, standing tall and unbreakable as winter begins to smooth its way over the country. Watching his breath escape from between his lips, Zuko pulls to a stop once he arrives at the pond, now slowly becoming too cold for the turtle ducks to swim in. They haven't given up yet, though; the little ones are playing with each other while mother watches over them, keeping a suspicious eye on Zuko in the process.
Zuko crouches down. The bottom of his robe, which was hovering just above the moist grass, becomes wet at last and he sighs. He might as well just sit down, so he does, winces at the cold seeping through his clothes instantly. At least it takes his mind off things.
He continues to hum a song, one he's heard so many times he thought he'd go crazy. One time did, kind of, a

It all started when they were out hunting for food, reminiscing about the good old days before the Hundred Year War had ended and they didn't have the luxury of servants which they'd just discarded for reasons Toph failed to remember, and then, suddenly, in the middle of Toph's rant about how illogical they had been to abandon their rich lives in order to 'regain peace all over the world', Zuko stopped her short and pointed at a bush.
“You think we can eat that?”
If one thing was certain, it was that they were both incredibly hungry. Who wouldn't be, after two days of roaming around the Earth Kingdom without supplies after they'd been robbed? So, in Toph's defense, her reply was only natural.
In her haste to consume food, any food, she forgot to notice she'd never encountered such a bush before, nor the fruit-like deliciousness that hung from it.
“I don't know,” Zuko said as he hesitant

The search began in the early morning, not long after breakfast and Zuko's announcement, and ended three days later at night, not long after the dinner Toph and Sokka had skipped.
They sat in the garden, depressed, and stared out over the yard they'd investigated over thirty times these past days. They sighed simultaneously. Their depression was genuine when they didn't laugh at the coincidence.
Sokka's stomach growled. He groaned right after, clutching at it and making a pained face.
"I really need to eat," he whined. "Ouch!"
He rubbed his shoulder and shot a deep frown at Toph, who looked just as unhappy as he did, though likely not entirely for the same reasons.
"What you need is to find that treasure," she said, irritated at either Sokka's lack of participation or that they still hadn't found it after the time they'd spent looking for it. They'd even skipped all their meals, only having a snack while they searched every now and then
Toko Week - TroubleWhen the earth started to move beneath his feet, he wasn't that worried. He had guards and soldiers with him, and they could handle anything that Yu Dao could throw at them. (Even an Avatar, and even if they hadn't actually won he had to give them points for their bravery. In all honesty they'd done quite well.)Toko Week - Trouble by BlueLucied
When the earth suddenly shot up and swallowed him up to his shoulders, and his undignified scramble to escape only left him with one free arm, is when Zuko decided to start worrying. Around him his entourage was in varied states of burial; up to shoulders and necks and poor Chen had toppled over and was stuck in an odd position, bent over, his torso above the ground but his arms sunk to his shoulders and his legs sunk up to his thighs. There were shouts of alarm as they tried to free themselves, shouts to him over what to do, is the Fire Lord safe, where are they coming from?
The last question was answered rather promptly by the appearance of a certain short earthbender

It was Toph who told him about most of their adventures. While he was still trying to find his place in the group, careful not to step on anyone's toes, Toph would always come to him. She'd sit beside him with ease, ignoring the frowns thrown at her, and the more she did it the less frequent the frowns appeared. She wouldn't say much to Zuko, or anyone in general, unless someone was getting ridiculed and she found it necessary to participate. But at night, after dinner and after everyone else had gone to sleep, she'd talk.
First she would take Zuko to a more secluded place where they wouldn't risk waking anyone up, and once settled there she would start her stories. They were all about the gang and what they'd been through together so far, both the good and the bad things, some funny, some not so much. Toph probably didn't know it, but she could deliver a story better than anyone Zuko had ever met. Even Uncle with his fairly charismatic vo

"I'm beat," the earthbender sighed, collapsing onto the velvet red couch next to her firebender companion. She sank more than willingly into the padded cushions as they absorbed her in comfort, the feel of the smooth, criss-cross patterns weaved into the fabric making a heavenly change from years' worth of paperwork against her fingertips.
Two weeks she had been in the Fire Nation as an Earth Kingdom representative. Two weeks of horror. She had no issues with being there - it was, after all, essentially a holiday for her. She simply had to nip in to visit her Fire Lord friend, share some lovely light-hearted banter, put a few trade route plans on the table while she was at it, and away she would go! Simple!
But her patience was really being tried by this point.
At best, she had learnt that every native of the council rooms had been trained in the secret art of bickering and thought ridiculously highly of themselves because of it. The meeting
